On June 25th, the 12th World Potato Congress was held in Adelaide, Australia. Dr. Liping Jin was awarded the " World Potato Industry Award" in recognition of her significant contribution and dedication to the growth and development of the global potato industry.
Dr Liping Jin has been working on potato genetics and breeding, and virus-free seed potato multiplication technology in Institute of Vegetables and Flowers, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences since 1987. She has bred and released over 30 potato varieties for fresh and processing. Zhongshu 3, Zhognshu 5, Zhongshu27 and Zhongshuzao 35 have been widely grown in China. She has published over 150 scientific papers and cultured more than 20 graduate students. She has awarded 10 national and provincial awards, including the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. She has won the honors of " National Innovation Medal", "National Advanced Agricultural Worker", " National Outstanding Agricultural Research Talents ", "National March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter", etc.
Dr Liping Jin is the principal scientist of the China Agriculture Research System – Potato Industry, director of the Potato Professional Committee of Crop Association of China, and director of the Key Laboratory of Biology and Genetic Improvement of Tuber and Root Crops of Ministry of Agriculture. She has conducted over 20 national research and development projects. Under her efforts, the potato growing area increased to about 4,800,000 ha, and the average yield increased to 21 t/ha in China. She has made outstanding contributions to the development of the potato industry both in China and the world.
