On 5 September, Mrs. Feng Yan, South-South Cooperation Project Officer of the China Office of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), and a delegation of Cuban experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment visited the Institute of Vegetables and Flowers (IVF)，China Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Mrs. Zhai Yanning, Deputy Director of the IVF, and relevant personnel of the Scientific Management Division attended the event.

At the symposium, the Cuban agricultural experts gained a deep understanding of the history, research fields, scientific research achievements, talent team and platform construction of the IVF. The IVF Prof. Li Guangcun made a report on "Genetic Breeding and Cultivation of Potato", and Prof. Zhuang Feiyun delivered a speech on "Genetic Breeding of Carrot". The delegation fully recognised the scientific research achievements made by the IVF in the field of plantation and its contributions to the development of agricultural science and technology in the world. During the exchange session, the two sides also had an in-depth discussion on the cooperation in soil quality, germplasm resources, agro-environment, plant protection and agro-technical personnel training.

Mrs. Zhai highlighted that in recent years, China and Cuba have taken the "Belt and Road" initiative as the starting point, and with the top leaders of the two countries attaching great importance to it, the results of agricultural cooperation have blossomed in all aspects, such as the cooperation projects in the fields of moringa, sericulture, animal husbandry and grain have been steadily advancing. In the next step, the IVF will take this exchange as an opportunity to strengthen all-around cooperation with Cuba in the field of vegetable science and technology, promote the green and high-quality development of agriculture, and serve the building of a Sino-Cuban community of destiny.
